“A pioneer of Spanish rock music” , that's how music experts call Micky, the artist who formed part of the famous 1960s band "Micky & the Tonys."
After phenomenal success with his group, he launched his solo career in the 1970s, delighting Spain and many parts of the world with songs like "The Boy with the Harmonica."
In 1977, he participated in the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in ninth place with “Enseñame a Cantar. This Christmas, he will perform live at the Benidorm Palace every Tuesday and Thursday until Three Kings' Night (January 5th).

What have you prepared for your concerts at the Benidorm Palace?Benidorm Palace Micky1
I'm like a sort of Christmas present. I will be performing with the Benidorm Palace Orchestra New Bambú over the Christmas period. We've put together a set of songs that includes Micky's solo hits, including "The Boy with the Harmonica," "Enséñame a cantar," and "Bye-bye Fraulein." Then we will add a few classic songs to the mix, for example, "Bésame Mucho," which The Beatles performed in Hamburg; "Ansiedad," by Nat King Cole; an Elvis Presley song called "Can't Help Falling in Love with You"; and a half-twist, to get people shaking their hips on the dance floor, "Buona sera signorina."

So songs that everyone knows…?
Yes… This music is tried and tested, it works, and sounds great too. Sometimes I turn around and say to the guys, "Congratulations, it sounds like a record." People will think we've lip-synced it, but no. Live music, vocals, and backing vocals. Everything is live.

Do you have anything special planned for Christmas or the evening of January 5th?
I am not a big fan of Christmas, as I am reminded of those we have lost, especially family members and close friends. So, I am cautious about other people's feelings and try not to be too nostalgic, in case I get emotional.

You've been performing since the 1960s. Do you still get nervous before every show?
Yes, of course. Nowadays, we have many role models, like Pastora Soler and Joaquin Sabina, who have had very public stage fright. I think it is a sense of responsibility that every artist should feel. I've had a lot of experience internationally, but,  even so, I have superstitious rituals that I carry out before going on stage, and I usually say a prayer to Saint Blaise and Saint Cecilia to help get the audience on my side.  I always have that nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach. If you don’t have it, bad news.

Which songs do the audience like the most?
Let’s start with “Enseñame a Cantar” . This Eurovision song is a direct goal at the top corner! Another sure hit that everyone remembers is “Bye Bye Fraulein.   ” I don’t know how to thank the fans flocking to the Benidorm Palace auditorium nightly.

And it works, because people still enjoy your concerts just as much as they did on the first day
Yes, I’ve been lucky enough to have had various number one hits in Germany and Benelux and I also became well known in the United States. People don´t recognize me now because I had a full head of hair back then, and now I am completely bald. I’m still handsome though!

You are a regular visitor to Benidorm, are you not..?
I’ll be honest, as my wife is here. When I was with Micky & the Tonys, Benidorm was the perfect place to meet attractive girls. I’ve always been a bit of a flirt and I enjoyed flirting with all the wonderful girls.

What's different about your concerts in Benidorm and those you do outside of Madrid?
I'm very versatile. In Madrid, I'm with Los Colosos del Ritmo, a genuine rock and roll band. There, we Rock! We don't play the same songs in Madrid as we do here. I am currently publishing a new C.D "La cuenta atrás," . Then I will travel to Austin, Texas, to finish a second CD. I will be with The Black Angels, a very special American group, amongst others. This is the kind of repertoire that I can have a blast with, but it is not profitable and I have to make a living from my music, which I do with my pop side.

How would you define the audience that comes to Benidorm Palace?
They're special; they don't mess around here, right? The audience is around the same age as me or maybe a bit older, but that doesn’t stop them from giving it their all on the dance floor. One lady even asked me not to sing too many ballads so she wouldn’t fall asleep! It is difficult to get the right balance, but generally the audience love to dance the night away.
